Job Summary

Slope is looking for a passionate, driven, and collaborative VP of Research Site Development to drive our US-based Academic Research Organization expansion strategy and achieve our site growth targets. As the VP of Research Site Development, you will be responsible for increasing market share of the company’s software-enabled clinical-trial inventory management platform among oncology-focused research institutions in the United States.

You will identify, develop, and foster relationships with key decision makers at clinical research sites by effectively communicating both the scientific and operational benefits of Slope’s software. You will function as a subject matter expert and evangelist, engaging with research site stakeholders in person, at conferences, through speaking engagements, via social media, and by leading remote presentations.

You will work closely with key site decision makers, as well as other clinical stakeholders and members of Slope’s team, to drive our site development strategy to achieve our growth and engagement targets. Your success will be measured by successful deployments and utilization of our free site-based software across new, existing, and expansion site accounts.

As a deeply experienced veteran of clinical research, and as someone who likely started their career as a Clinical Research Coordinator, you can speak with authority about the pain points associated with current industry “best practices” as it relates to drug, device, lab kit, sample, and ancillary supply management. You understand all aspects of site-based clinical operations, budgets, and study management. You are also very familiar with all the different types of eClinical software platforms currently leveraged by research sites to facilitate study execution.

Most importantly, you’ve leveraged this knowledge and expertise to develop a proven track record of business development success. You are friendly, competitive, and proactive about business growth and business development. You have the ability to strategically map complex site organizations of all shapes and sizes, understanding how to unlock growth opportunities in those accounts through strong prospecting skills coupled with a deep interest, expertise, and industry network. Your ability to network and maximize the value of your network to grow business will be valuable.

  • You will be accountable for achieving Slope’s site growth, engagement, and software utilization targets for new accounts and within Slope’s existing research site base.
  • You, in partnership with Slope’s Marketing and Product teams, will contribute to our research site growth strategy and own the tactical execution of those site growth plans by setting goals, owning pipeline, creating forecasts, and reporting progress. You will also be responsible for identifying areas of expansion, areas to bolster, and guide budgetary spend to maximize ROI.
  • You demonstrate a desire and aptitude to present in small and large, internal and external groups. You schedule and manage well-planned meetings with efficiency and always ensure objectives are met.
  • You will initially work as an individual contributor, but will be expected to establish and grow a motivated team. As the leader of Slope’s research site development team, you will be responsible for recruiting, leading, managing, mentoring, and motivating your team to achieve Slope’s business goals. You will make this team successful by clearly communicating priorities, helping them qualify target sites, ensuring software gets deployed, and guiding them around obstacles.
  • You will be a key member of Slope’s leadership team and will partner cross-functionally to ensure Slope’s success.
  • You will be responsible for deepening engagement with existing Slope sites, with a strong focus on a target group of large Academic Research Organizations. This includes partnering with Slope's Product and Engineering teams to surface feedback, explore product development initiatives, and feature deployment plans, ensuring Slope is an inextricable part of Research Site clinical operations workflows.
  • You will perform market research to map and segment Slope’s target market and establish decision maker insight, identifying what opportunities, challenges and dynamics exist for Slope’s target site users while understanding and planning against the competitive landscape. You’ll leverage these insights to develop competitive briefs, sales processes, scripts, and additive resources that support Slope’s go to market efforts.
  • You will establish and maintain key client relationships, persuading and engaging with various audiences by demonstrating solid communication skills in both written and presentation form, including becoming an “evangelist” and spokesperson for Slope.
  • You will perform other duties as assigned.
Experience & Requirements
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in business or a science related field.
  • You have 10+ years of experience working either at a research site or as a Clinical Research Associate, and deeply understand the clinical trial process.
  • You have 3+ years of experience leading business development teams with a track record of results in a high-growth, competitive, life sciences environment.
  • You have a track record of attracting, hiring, and coaching great talent. People you’ve managed still consider you a mentor and have gone on to do big things. Many of them would work with you again in a heartbeat.
  • You’re creative and will drive experiments in different sales approaches. You love listening to calls, reading between the lines on what clients are truly saying, and ideating with the team on a better approach.
  • You are exceptional at building trusting relationships with clients and scale teams that do the same.
  • You are an outstanding communicator, both verbally and in writing. You naturally document plans for transparency so future employees can quickly get up to speed.
  • You are comfortable leading remote teams, and believe it is the future of work. You embrace asynchronous communication and work hard to help your team achieve an ideal flow.
  • You believe in servant leadership. You are willing to work in the trenches and take pride in the ongoing coaching and development of your teammates. You constantly look for ways to make everyone better at what they do.
