Chief Executive Officer
Job Summary

Slope is looking for a passionate, driven, and collaborative executive leader to provide clinical expertise in biopharma business development and academic research center recruiting efforts, own the strategic expansion of our clinical operations business unit, and support the organization as a clinical trial subject matter expert.

As Chief Clinical Officer you will be the face of Slope to the clinical research industry, engaging with key decision makers in person, at conferences, through speaking engagements, via social media, and in remote presentations. Working alongside the go-to-market team — as well as Slope’s CEO — you’ll help establish eClinical Supply Chain Management as a new Software as a Service product category through careful thought leadership and an evangelist mindset.

In this role you will partner with Slope’s Vice President of Business Development to generate new, repeat, and expansion business for the company’s software-enabled clinical trial supply chain management solutions by leveraging your strong clinical operations background, network, and strategic understanding of the pre-commercialization lifecycle. You will work closely with Sponsors and CROs, as well as other clinical stakeholders and members of Slope’s team, to drive our oncology-centric strategy to achieve our growth targets. While you won’t carry a quota, your success will be measured by bookings across therapeutic and clinical stage focus areas.

You will also collaborate with Slope’s Vice President of Research Site Development to identify, develop, and foster relationships with key decision makers at clinical research sites by effectively communicating both the scientific and operational benefits of Slope’s software. You will function as a subject matter expert and evangelist, supporting our site development strategy to achieve our growth and engagement targets. Your success will be measured by successful deployments of our free site-based software across new, existing, and expansion site accounts.

Slope’s Chief Clinical Officer will also work alongside Slope’s Senior Director of Clinical Operations to lead, shape, and refine Slope’s clinical operations strategy, providing executive oversight and leadership of our Solutions and Depot teams. With at least 20 years of clinical operations experience at the sponsor and CRO level, they are intimately familiar with the unique and ever-changing challenge of executing logistically-complex, sample-heavy, early-phase clinical trials and have a strong desire to deliver patient-first studies with a modern, product-led experience.

It should not be understated that Slope has an incredibly complex, deeply-connected domain model of specialized tools and workflows that combine to achieve familiar results but in a more modern and automated fashion. Therefore, the ability for this leader to position Slope's product-led, technology-centric approach against “traditional best practices” is absolutely paramount.

  • You will work with Slope’s go-to-market team to help achieve our (1) new, repeat, and expansion bookings targets and (2) site growth, engagement, and software utilization targets for new accounts and within Slope’s existing research site base.
  • You will help lead, shape, and refine Slope’s go-to-market strategy while providing technical and clinical guidance in a support role.
  • You will be a key member of Slope’s leadership team and will partner cross-functionally to ensure success. You’ll partner with our Marketing and Solutions teams to align on go-to-market goals and drive expansion revenue opportunities. You’ll partner with Slope’s Product and Engineering teams to surface feedback, explore product development initiatives that will improve our close rates, and drive successful outcomes for customers.
  • You will help establish and maintain key client relationships, persuading and engaging with various audiences by demonstrating solid communication skills in both written and presentation form, including becoming an “evangelist” and spokesperson for Slope.
  • You’ll work closely with Slope’s Sales and Marketing teams to develop technical guidance materials, including, but not limited to: articles, blogs, presentations, case studies, application guides, social media posts, videos, conference materials.
  • You will help perform market research to map and segment Slope’s target market and establish decision maker insight, identifying what opportunities, challenges and dynamics exist for Slope’s target users while understanding and planning against the competitive landscape.
  • You will support Slope’s organization as a clinical trial subject matter expert.
  • You will perform other duties as assigned.
Experience & Requirements
  • You have an advanced degree in a science or a clinical research-related field.
  • You have significant experience leading clinical operations teams at both small and large life sciences companies and deeply understand the pre-commercialization process.
  • You have managed global clinical trials, and feel comfortable directing technical and operational projects in heavily regulated environments.
  • You have a track record of attracting, hiring, and coaching great talent. People you’ve managed still consider you a mentor and have gone on to do big things. Many of them would work with you again in a heartbeat.
  • You love helping solve clinical operations challenges, reading between the lines on what customers are truly saying, and ideating with the team on a better approach.
  • You are exceptional at building trusting relationships.
  • You are an outstanding communicator, both verbally and in writing. You naturally document plans for transparency so future employees can quickly get up to speed.
  • You are comfortable leading remote teams, and believe it is the future of work. You embrace asynchronous communication and work hard to help your team achieve an ideal flow.
  • You believe in servant leadership. You are willing to work in the trenches and take pride in the ongoing coaching and development of your teammates. You constantly look for ways to make everyone better at what they do.
